Repeat and new buyers with high confidence saw Justin Tombs, Harewood Dohne ram sale average $1140 at their second annual on property sale at Woodlands near Armidale on Friday.
Of the 31 rams on offer, 25 rams sold for a clearance of 81 per cent and a top price of $3700.
A ram midway through the catalogue topped the sale at $3700, purchased by Lachlan and Del Johnston, Amaroo Dohne stud for their Emmaville operation.
Weighing 74.5 kilograms the September 2018-drop ram sired by HW142138 measured an ASBV weaning weight (WWT) of 3.4, eye muscle depth (PEMD) of 1.5, fat measure (PFAT) of 0.9, a clean fleece weight (YCFW) of 8.3 and Dohne+ Index of 153.8.
The bulk buyer of the day was The Porter family, St Elmo, Armidale, who secured six rams to average $867 and topped at $1100.
Stud principal Justin Tombs was blown away by the success of the sale and how the Dohne's had held up through the tough conditions.
"It really shows what your doing right in your breeding program," he said.
The sale was conducted by Armitage and Buckley with Tom Piddington as auctioneer.
