WEANER steers sold to a top of $1500 a head during the Maitland store cattle sale on Saturday.
A total of 1700 head was offered which was about 600 more than the last sale.
Bowe and Lidbury agent Michael Easey, Maitland, said there was an excellent line-up of quality well bred weaners sold.
"The quality of the cows with calves and pregnancy-tested-in-calf cows was down when compared with the last store sale," Mr Easey said.
"The well bred to good quality cattle sold very well to a lot of repeat buyers and new ones from all over the Hunter, Central Coast and Tamworth district."
Mr Easey said weaner steers were about $100 a head dearer.
Three- to 12-month-old weaner steers sold from $450 to $1500 and averaged $1000, while weaner heifers ranged from $350 to $1100 and averaged $800.
Yearling steers sold from $980 to $1650 and averaged $1300, and a limited supply of grown steers made $1450 to $1700, averaging $1600.
Unjoined heifer prices were firm and sold from $1300 to $2100, averaging $1480. The PTIC heifers made $1800 to $2400 and PTIC cows ranged from $700 to $1850.
Unjoined cows averaged $900 and sold from $600 to $1750.
The cows with calves were about $100 cheaper, but still averaged $1850 and ranged from $1300 to $2800 a unit.
Mr Easey said B and M Duncan, Boambee Angus, Seaham, sold a run of 120 vendor bred steers straight of their mothers with an average weight of 316kg. The top 40 steers sold for $1500/head to Tarin Grove, Pokolbin. Their heifer draft topped at $1060 a head.
Ian Nunan, Clarence Town, sold PTIC Angus heifers for $2400 to Bador Pastoral. Mr Nunan's unjoined heifers sold for $2050.
