The Red Reflections Red Angus sale may have been forced to move to an online only format but it didn't impact bidding action on the genetic offerings from Goonoo, GK, Goondoola and Yallambee studs on Friday.
Viewers from as far as Papua New Guinea and New Zealand tuned in to the streams from Elite Livestock Auctions and AuctionsPlus where bids flew to a $12,500 top price.
At the fall of the hammer 25 from 30 female lots sold to average $5100 and reach the overall $12,500 sale high for Goonoo Red Nature while all three bulls sold to average $6666 and top at $8000 for GK 1B Pretty Reckless.
Three from four flush lots sold to average $3833 and topped at $4500 for GK Red Diamond Mist M16. All three embryo lots sold and averaged $886/each for a $1000/each top for Red Cockburn Assassin 624D cross GK Red 23 Cherok J28 and all seven semen packaged sold for a $298/straw average and a $550/straw top for Red Fine Line Mulberry 26P.
Yallambee also offered a pen of 10 future breeder heifers which sold to $1600/head while a pen of 15 PTIC cows sold to $2400/hd.
The successful sale results was the ultimate birthday present for one of the vendors, Goonoo stud principal Graham Jordan, Tamworth, who said everybody was over the moon with the result.
"We were all very happy because we were given a fair few hoops to jump through with the coronavirus and other issues but we jumped through all those and put on an online sale, which we hadn't done before, not totally anyway" he said.
"I think there were a lot of other breeds there watching today because they also have to contend with that, even in the next few months and leading into the spring sales.
"At the end of the day there was good cattle put up and the presentation was spot on."
The $12,500 sale top was achieved for the third offering of the day, the 30-month-old Goonoo Red Nature and her rising two-month-old bull calf, Goonoo Red Rudolph.
Offered by the Jordan family of Goonoo stud, she was purchased by repeat client Arthur Kelly, AK stud, Kangaroo Valley.
The female was highly sought after for her genetics, as a daughter of Rockridge Magic Imp C42 and by K5X Jackpot J20. Her young calf was by Canadian champion, Red Six Mile High Caliber 177C.
She was one of six female purchases for Mr Kelly, which averaged $6250, and will be added to his herd of about 40 stud Red Angus females.
Mr Kelly also purchased the $20,000 top price heifer at the 2018 Red Reflections sale in Goonoo Red Magnolia.
"I've dealt with the Jordans and Croakers in the past and am really happy with the relationship and quality of animals they have produced," he said.
"Their animals have added quality to my herd and if there is an opportunity to pick them up I do that.
"I do a fair bit of line and inter-breeding and I was very lucky in my life to obtain some incredible bulls like Wollumbi Hi Star from David Croaker and also have many straws of Jackpot and Hi Star's father, so I try to keep the bloodlines within that all."
The $8000 top price bull, GK 1B Pretty Reckless, was bound for Queensland after being secured by Melissa George of Eskdale Cattle.
The stud sire prospect was named junior and grand champion Red Angus at the 2019 Royal Queensland Show when he was only 10 months.
The sale was conducted from the Elders Tamworth office with Paul Dooley as auctioneer.
- An additional two females sold after the sale for a new female average of $4833.
