PROCEEDS from two steers selling at $1470 each and other stock at the annual Tag-A-Calf fundraiser were donated to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service during the special store cattle sale at Tamworth Regional Livestock Exchange last Friday.
The sale attracted a yarding of 1800 head of which 153 steer weaners and 417 yearling steers topped at $1470 for weaners and yearlings to average $1100.
Weaner heifers sold to $1310 while yearlings made to $1500 and vealers to $1189 while the section totalling 660 head averaged $1120.
The equal top donated steer was among an Angus offering of 98 steers and 79 heifers from Tony and Tania Haling, Hillside Park, Woolbrook, which averaged $1320. The steer was purchased by Fleming and Ross, Gunnedah, when sold by Ian Morgan Livestock, Quirindi.
A daughter of the Halings, Anastasia, was rushed to hospital by the Westpac helicopter the Monday before the sale after a horse riding accident at home, but now recuperating at home.
The lead pen of Haling heifers sold at $1370 to Tamworth district restockers.
The Avery family, Wee Waa, also gained top money for their donated Angus yearling steer among a draft bought by Rod Roseby, Roseby Farms, Quirindi, who had sold their mothers to the Avery family last year.
Neil Family Grazing, Tenterden Station, Guyra, donated one of their steers which made $1400 purchased by local federal member, Barnaby Joyce and parents Jim and Marie.
Although the number of actual buyers were restricted, plenty took the opportunity to inspect before the sale and buy through their local agent and did little to detract from the market with agents quoting prices $100 to $150 dearer on the last sale.
A run of 160 Charolais/Charbray-cross heifers off agistment in South West Queensland, 300 to 360 kilograms off agistment sold for the McIntyre Family Partnership, St George, Qld, most selling to Dave and Louise Carlon, Tarwarri, Nundle, topping at $1500 to average $1440.
The yarding of 55 cows with calves topped at $2150 a unt for Angus and Angus-cross sold by Clarke Ag, whose draft averaged $1860.
Twenty-six PTIC cows averaged $1495 and made up to $1610 for Angus from Bregot Grazing, Manilla, which averaged $1512, while the same money was gained for Droughtmaster cows. the 26 cows averaged $1495.
