Wodonga yarded 2430 cattle at the weekly store sale on Thursday, with cows and calves selling for a top of $3530 per unit.
Matt Tinkler said they have seen the market reach the same heights previously, but not with the consistency seen on Thursday.
"It was very buoyant, pen after pen was strongly competed on," Mr Tinkler said.
The day started with a pen of four Angus cow and calf units offered by R and H Harrod, Splitters Creek selling for $3530 per unit.
The cows were 680kg, pregnancy-tested-in-calf and with eight to ten-month calves, weighing around 350kg, at foot.
"They were premium outfits and it was a great way to start a sale," Mr Tinkler said.
Cows sold from $1500 to $2000 and included 53 Hereford cows from Glen Colline Partnership, Lucyvale, Vic which sold as part of a female dispersal for a top of $1920.
Mr Tinkler said there was some good lines of feeder cattle on offer, northern feedlotter competition pushing prices to 420c/kg for steers weighing more than 350kg, most selling from between $1475 and $1905.
Account G Hoffmann, Thurgoona topped the steer section of the sale, with 10 Angus cross steers weighing 452kg selling for $1905.
Steers weighing 280kg to 350kg sold from $1200 to $1470, most making from 420c/kg to 460-480c/kg.
Angus steers weighing 338kg were offered by J and H Froiland, Nathalia, Vic, the tops sold for $1470. Second and third pens, weighing 306kg and 301kg made $1415.
Lighter steers made up to 530c/kg selling between $610 and $1340.
Holstons Pastoral Company sold 31 Angus cross steers weighing 277kg for $1340, 483c/kg.
The heavy end of the heifers made 370-390c/kg, 300kg heifers made around 390c/kg to 420-430c/kg, with lighter weights making up to 460c/kg.
Account KJ Jackson, Fernvale, Vic sold 29 Hereford heifers, 344kg for $1325.
J and H Froiland, Nathalia, Vic sold two pens of 18 Angus cross heifers weighing 298kg for $1245.
The sale was conducted by Elders and Paull and Scollard Nutrien.
