Often the answer to being smarter is keeping it simple. This is the principle that Wayne Coffey followed when designing the Combi Clamp Sheep Handler 20 years ago.
The simplicity of the Combi Clamp's design does not limit the number of tasks it can be used for.
"Many of our clients are using the Combi Clamp for their whole weaning process in one pass through the handler," Mr Coffey said.
"Weigh, drench, vaccinate, check teeth, dagg and draft. It is the hands-free operation and access across the animal that allow this versatility and efficiency."
Previous misinterpretation, due to the lack of pneumatics, meant the Combi Clamp was often perceived as a small farmer machine.
"We have many clients who own multiple Combi Clamps used on different properties," Mr Coffey said.
"The other advantage here is that if a large number of animals need to be processed, two handlers can be set up in the same yards to double the throughput keeping one person busy filling the races.
"The affordability of the handler is what makes the Combi Clamp popular with smaller operations too.
"With a simple set of scales, it is close to half the price of other sheep handlers."
It is through improved efficiency in production that has kept the price down for all these years, even while material costs continue to rise.
Combi Clamp are holding demonstrations via Facebook Live on June 8-12, from 10.30am AEST.
