Melbourne might have its cup but Louth has the undeniable reputation for being the biggest picnic races in one of the most isolated regions of NSW.
But this year the infamous races that doesn't just have a fashions on the fields, but has the best novelty dress where some punters have arrived in coloured suits, mullets and outrageous team uniforms, has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
As restrictions have started to eased across the NSW, race president Jim Strachan said they hung onto a glimmer of hope they could still run the event.
But with two months to go, he said they made the decision to call-off the races for August 8, 2020 as they did not have the resources to monitor social distancing.
"We are not a big town and everyone has a job and is busy on the day so it would be hard to monitor," Mr Strachan said.
"The health of our visiting punters, and all those living here is of paramount importance to us and we do not want to put anyone's health at risk."
But Mr Strachan said: "don't worry we will definitely be back racing again next year".
"It will be the same time next year as along as there are no restrictions," he said.
