After the cattle sale today at SELX Yass, there can be no doubt restockers have supreme confidence in the season.
With 700 yarded and mostly Angus, restockers were keen to get stock while they still can perhaps feeling that quality types will be in short supply during the winter months.
And with pasture growth prolific following recent good rain it was not surprising to many when particular pens of steer weaners made near of over $5kg.
Holman Tolmie Pty Ltd, Cootamundra agent James Tolmie quoted the sale 'really strong'.
"There was some very good lines of cattle penned with the draft from Springfield, Boorowa and Fullerton Station Cattle Company prominent for quality and numbers," he said.
"Prices are holding and I would call it a 'grass market' with buyers confident because of the rain.
"We had a good turnout of buyers here today as COVID-19 restrictions are easing."
Indicative prices included nine Angus steers sold by M.A Coles, Gundary weighing 347kg for $1460: Junction Pastoral Co, Gundagai sold five Charolais cross weighing 317kg for $1365 and Fullerton Station Cattle Co, Crookwell sold 19 Angus weighing 344kg for $1505.
Among the few heifers J and P Stevenson, Goulburn sold 11 Angus, nine - 11 months weighing 321kg for $1340 and S and S Hinds, Mullion via Yass sold five Angus cross weighing 287kg for $1170.
PTIC cows sold to $2280 when Cate Investments, Crookwell offered 14 nine - 10 year Myanga-blood Angus, PTIC to Bannaby-blood Angus.
Cows with calves topped at $2950 when Junction Pastoral Co, Gundagai penned 11 Black Simmental three and four years and weighing 620kg.
Local restockers were particularly strong with commission buyers operating when they could.
