RAIN and snow will return to parts of NSW during the next few days as a pair of cold fronts pass over south-eastern Australia.
The first front will cross the state today, causing a burst of wind and showers in some districts.
The strongest winds will occur on the central and southern ranges, with damaging winds possible in some exposed areas, particularly during the morning.
Rain from this first front will be mostly confined to the southern and central inland, on and west of the ranges.
These showers will fall as snow in the alps and could reach down to about 1300 metres elevation by tonight.
Another weaker front will follow on Friday, bringing a second surge of cold air and showers during Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, a few showers will develop about the northern slopes and ranges at the leading edge of the approaching cold air mass.
Further south, another round of showers will affect the southern and central inland of NSW between Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.
These showers could fall as snow down to about 1000m in the southern ranges and 1200m in central NSW.
All up, most areas of the state will only record light falls from these two fronts, with many areas, unfortunately, missing out this time around.
The heaviest falls will occur on and west of the southern ranges, where some places could get more than 20mm by Sunday.
