Simmentals and Red Angus breeds success at national sale

Sixteen of 25 Simmental bulls averaged $8125 while nine of 12 females topped at $7000, twice, to average $6167. Fifty semen straws averaged $840, while a flush sold at $5000 and 12 embryos sold to an $708 average.

Sale-topper was Simmental Round-Em-Up Powerhouse Riddler sired by LFE The Riddler 323B and from Hobbs Livestock Black Opal, purchased by Justin Humphreys, Injune, Queensland, who chased the bull in a bidding dual during the Helmsman auction for his homogeneous polled and black genetics.

Powerhouse Riddler's dam, Black Opal, is a matron that keeps giving, according to breeders david and Ashleigh Hobbs, Round-Em-Up stud, Molong.

Another of her sons and half-brother to the sale-topper selling at second top price of $12,000 was Round-Em-Up Perfect Choice, sired by Wheatland Ultimate Choice, purchased by Angus and Leslie Tink, Mebul near Goolma.

Third top money at $10,000 was paid by Allan Walker, Ben Eden stud, Delungra, for Hobbs Livestock Red Summit's Captain, a Harvie Red Summit son bred by Stuart and Kylie Hobbs, Molong.

Seven of 11 Red Angus bulls sold to a top of $8000, twice, to average $6000, while five of 13 females sold to $7000 and averaged $3200. Genetics sales included 18 semen straws to $500 to average $247 and four embryos sold at $600 each.

The two bulls topping the breed came from the Powe family's Goondoola stud, Cargo, who also sold two females.

First was Goondoola Pale Ale P07 by Red Six Mile Custom Made 505C and from a foundation stud matron BST Tullatoola Robin's Doll C104, selling to Matt and Melissa George, Eskdale Cattle Pty Ltd, Eskdale, Qld, while the other, Goondoola Patriot P25, a calf at foot to Goondoola Gold M24, the 2019 Sydney Royal Red Angus senior female champion, and Patriot later winner of the National All Breeds Heifer Show Bull Bonanza at Dubbo, was purchased by Robert and Marilyn Flannery, Uffington stud and commercial herd, Clarence Town.
