Not quite 500 head were penned for the monthly cattle sale at Scone last Thursday where the quality was described by MacCallum Inglis agent Stuart Sheldrake as "patchy".
"It was a plainer offering than previous market and the trend was cheaper as a result than last month," Mr Sheldrake said.
"The quality was very mixed with the best of the yearling steers, a pen of good Charolais-cross selling for $1300."
Mr Sheldrake said the run of heifers sold to $1040, while a pen of Charolais-cross heifers pregnancy-tested-in-calf to a Charolais bull sold for $2200.
A very good pen of five- and six-year-old, unjoined cows with calves sold for $2650.
Davidson Cameron manager Warick Clydesdale, Scone, said numbers were cut by half on the previous sale. "The quality dropped and was reflected in the prices," he said.
Local restockers competed with Stocklive and one buyer from Guyra successful.
