The support of bulk buyers from Collector and Birdsville helped the Crowley family of Tycolah Herefords achieve one of their most significant sale results.
After battling one of the toughest droughts in the stud's history, a near full clearance of bulls and females under the hammer brought happiness and relief to vendor Steve Crowley after the sale.
Of the 31 bulls on offer 28 sold under the hammer to average $6642 and top at $12,000 while nine of 12 heifers averaged $3278 and topped at $4500.
An additional two heifers sold at the conclusion of the sale for a revised average of $3136.
A total of 33 buyers registered on the day with 22 successful on the day.
The bulls were born in a drought, weaned in a drought and finally ran on oats earlier this year. They had been under a strict culling process given the conditions and the line was one of the most even they had presented.
"I'm really happy and relieved after what we have been through," Mr Crowley said.
"We were lucky we had a lineup of bulls this year. They've been through a lot."
Pre-sale interest was strong for Tycolah Rushmore P141 who was eventually knocked down for the top price of $12,000 to Doug Nash, Cranbury Herefords, Cudal.
The near two-year-old bull weighed 766 kilograms with P8 and rib fat depths of 14 and 11 and an eye muscle area of 116 square centimetres. His intramuscular fat score was 5.4 with 40 centimetre scrotal.
He was top 15 per cent for retail yield and displayed plenty of growth but Mr Nash was attracted to his bloodline more than his figures.
The Waraba Park Lofty L291 son was out of Tycolah Countess E69, a female bloodline that caught Mr Nash's attention.
His mother was the full sister to Tycolah Goldrush who was the $38,000 top priced bull at the Dubbo National in 2009 and renowned for his calving ease and the breeding ability of his daughters.
"There might have been better bulls here but he suited our operation," Mr Nash said.
"We have never used that bloodline before."
The young bull will be put with the stud herd when joining recommences from around September to November.
Top price heifer money of $4500 was paid PD and AL Durkin, Warialda, for Tycolah Tessie's Favourite P069 who had an intramuscular fat scan of 6.2 per cent and was pregnancy tested in calf to Tycolah Playboy.
The bulk bull buyer was Okeview Pastoral, Collector, who have been buying up big throughout the week and secured seven on the day.
CP and MF Eddie, Roma, took home three heifers.
Nutrien Livestock conducted the sale with Paul Dooley as guest auctioneer.
