BLACK cattle dominated the yarding at the South Eastern Livestock Exchange, Yass, last Friday.
The 917 store cattle offering was mixed in overall quality and condition.
There were some pens with outstanding condition and breeding which was reflected in the prices paid.
Weaner steers 200kg to 280kg sold from $910 to $1360 (480c/kg to 510c/kg) while those more than 300kg sold $1200 to $1675 (410c/kg to 460c/kg).
Yearling steers sold to $1460.
Medium weight weaner heifers sold from $870 to $1230, while the heavier pens sold from $1170 to $1380 (400c/kg to 430c/kg).
Yearling heifers sold to $1415, while pregnancy-teste-in-calf females sold from $1400 to $1550 and cows with calves sold from $2100 to $2500.
Best presented steers was awarded to McLean and McLean, Taralga, for 13 Millah Murrah-blood Angus steers, weighing 410kg that sold for $1675.
Some indicative sales included 14 Hereford and Hereford-cross steers, September/October 2019-drop and weighing 316kg sold by Peninsula ACT Pty Ltd, Paddys River, for $1340: V.S and F.E Brewer, Boorowa sold 16 Old Bundemar-blood Angus weighing 319kg for $1480 and J.E Taylor, Boorowa, sold eight Kennys Creek-blood Angus steers weighing 253kg for $1180.
Other excellent sales of steers included eight Alloura-blood Angus, October/November 2019-drop weighing 370kg sold for $1590 on account Harwood Partnership, Murrumbateman; 12 September/October-2019 drop Angus weighing 249kg sold by Billa Springs Pastoral Co, Tharwa, ACT, for $1240 and Currawong Livestock, Harden, sold 24 Murray Grey steers weighing 355kg for $1430.
In the heifer pens best presented was awarded to A and C Ledger, The Mullion, for their pen of 20 September-2019 drop Angus heifers weighing 329kg which sold for $1375.
Representative sales of heifers included 16 Old Bundemar-blood Angus weighing 304kg sold by V.S and F.E Brewer, Boorowa, for $1350: Jackson and Roberts, Braidwood, sold seven Angus, weighing 242kg for $1110 and Harwood Partnership, Murrumbateman, received $1380 for their five Alloura-blood Angus weighing 352kg.
Best presented pen of cows was awarded to Matthew Vella, Conmar Farms, Cobbity, for five first calf Angus and rejoined to Kesby Limousin bull sold for $2350, while Nattai Lodge, Mittagong, sold five Angus heifers weighing 396kg and joined to Myanga and Koolewong Angus bulls for $1125.
Yass district restockers and those from the Southern Tablelands dominated competition, while buyers from Bathurst, Cootamundra and Moss Vale competed with strong enquiry through AuctionsPlus and regular commission buyers.
Selling agents, Jim Hindmarsh and Co, Delta, Gerrard and Partners, Butt Livestock and Property, Michael Hall Livestock and Property, Duncombe and Co, MD and JJ Anderson, Holman Tolmie, Nutrien and Elders conducted the sale.
