A PUREBRED Limousin led steer from Kingaroy has produced champion carcase of the 2020 Royal Queensland Show.
Exhibited by the Evans family, Jen-Daview Limousin Stud, the heavy weight carcase class winner was bred and grown on-farm.
The winning 300.6kg carcase had a 62.2 per cent meat yield and was produced from a 480kg animal. The carcase had 103square cm eye muscle area, 10mm of fat at the P8 site, 8mm at the ribs, and scored an impressive maximum of five points for marbling.
The top placed carcase also scored a very handy $2000 in the Elders jackpot competition - 25pc of the pool.
It's the first time in 10 years of exhibiting led steers at the Ekka that the Evans have secured the grand champion title.
Because of COVID-19 restrictions the led section of competition was not held held.
Instead the animals were sent direct for processing and MSA grading at Nolan Meats, Gympie.
All of the carcases will be auctioned on the Stocklive website from 9am on Friday.
Brent Evans, who works as a livestock buyer for Nolan Meats said he and his brother Corey were forever grateful for the opportunities presented by their parents David and Jenny.
"We would be lost without them," Brent said.
The excitement continues for Jen-Daview tomorrow with family member 22-year-old Corey Evans competing in the ALPA Queensland Young Auctioneers Competition at Silverdale Saleyards. Corey is representing Kingaroy-based agency Aussie Land and Livestock.
Interestingly, Limousin genetics featured in eight of the top 10 carcases.
The Ekka led steer competition was supported by Woolworths, Santos, Z Tags, Elders, Nolan Meats, and AAM Investment Group.
