Not every stud cattle auction offers more than bulls and females, but at Pentire Angus sale, Singleton, last Saturday, Pedro the donkey, a family favourite, was also catalogued - and sold on his birthday.
He's one of seven donkeys Justin Richards uses to quieten bulls selected for showing.
Pedro's mother was in foal with him when purchased 14 months ago, and now on his birthday the gelded donkey needed to make way for others within the team.
The Richards family children and their friends were keen to keep Pedro so they raided their piggy banks to scrape up enough money to buy him.
But alas, Pedro made more money than they could afford, having counted up to about $59 in total.
However, Mr Richards said Pedro was going to a good home after the donkey was purchased by Dwight Geelan of Stiklands Pty Ltd, Singleton, for $2700.
Mr Richards ties a donkey to a bull at lead rope length to quieten bulls in preparation for leading tuition when getting ready for showing.
