DELL Dorper and African White Dorper studs of the van Niekerk family, Moama, sold both Dorper and White Dorper sale toppers at the annual Cobar breed sale last Tuesday.
Sale-topper at $4000 was a twin Dell bred Dorper ram sired by the well muscled Burrawang 140630, now six years and still very sound. The dam was from one of Dell's top breeding young ewes.
The ram, weighing 106 kilograms, carried an eye muscle depth of 46 millimetres and fat score of 9.5mm, and was purchased by Bully Malherbe, Bulmar stud, Orange.
A total of 10 studs offered rams of both breeds in the catalogue while later 151 young ewes sold to $350 to average $307.
The sale averaged $2100 for all 86 rams sold in an auction total clearance, according to selling agent, Luke Scales of Nutrien Russell, Cobar."The average was a lot higher than last year due to the positive change in seasonal conditions," Mr Scales said.
Buyers supported from the Western Division, Broken Hill, Bourke, up to Talwood, Queensland, and Lake Cargelligo, Griffith and Hillston with AuctionsPlus securing several lots.
Top-priced White Dorper ram at $3600 was also sold by Dell stud and purchased by long-term clients Dustan and Lincoln Old, who run a large flock at Bourke.
This embryo transfer son of a Kaya sire was from a top African donor ewe, the dam of the 2019 National reserve senior champion at Toowoomba, Qld.
The sale was conducted by Nutrien Russell, Cobar, John Settree, Dubbo, auctioneer.
