Kenmere Charolais average $7676 in online sale

Stud co-principal Ann-Marie Collins said they weren't sure how an online, spring sale would go, but were very happy with the results.

"We've only ever held our main on-property sale in March, but we decided to run these as a spring group because they were ready for sale and it gave us another avenue," Mrs Collins said.

Kenmere manager Glenn Trout added the sale also allowed buyers with spring-based calvings to operate on their bulls.

The $16,500 sale-topper, Kenmere Pompeii, was the only two-year-old in the sale and had been headed to the World Charolais Congress in Brisbane until it was cancelled due to COVID-19.

The homozygous polled sire, who has been lightly used by the stud, was named Junior Champion bull at the Charolais Nationals in 2019 and was part of the Interbreed winning group at the Melbourne Royal last year.

He was sired by Kenmere Herichio and out of Kenmere Tourmaline D23E, with an intramuscular fat percentage of 6.4 and eye muscle area of 146 centimetres squared.

Purchaser, James Millner of Rosedale Charolais, Blayney said they thought Kenmere Pompeii offered the whole package.

"For a big animal I thought he moved very well, had soft skin and offered new genetics for the stud," Mr Millner said.

The second-highest price was $15,500, paid for Kenmere Qualify, who was part of the first draft of Kenmere Maximus sons offered for sale.

The 16-month-old tipped the scales at 840 kilograms, with fat scans of 13 millimetres for rump and 8mm for rib, an EMA of 119cm and IMF of 5.8 per cent.

He was purchased by first-time client Tony Friend of Johnsonville, Victoria.

In total, nine of the 20 bulls offered were sired by Kenmere Maximus and seven sold for an average of $8071.

Return clients CM Pastoral Company, Moama bought three of the 17 bulls sold.

Ms Collins said bulls were headed all over the Eastern states, including Queensland and Victoria.
