CATTLE prices continue to zoom higher this week with the Eastern Young Cattle Indicator climbing to a record 788.25 cents a kilogram (carcase weight) on Wednesday afternoon.
The EYCI price breakdown shows restockers paying an 85c/kg premium to feeders and a 107c/kg premium to processors according to Meat and Livestock Australia.
This is in contrast to the same time last year when the EYCI had feeder buyers paying a 12c/kg and 56c/kg premium over processors and restockers respectively.
Throughput for the EYCI declined by 27 per cent, compared to the same time last year, to 12,196 head for the week ending August 26.
EYCI eligible cattle were 90pc yearlings in the past week, MLA reported with the 200kg to 330kg weight category accounting for the greatest price increases since the middle of August.
Strong southern restocker demand has seen light cattle head interstate from both Queensland and Western Australia, supporting the overall strength in the store market.
