Kempsey Regional Saleyards set a new record for live weight cattle this week cracking over $6 a kilogram for light weaners.
Around 880 went under the hammer last Thursday with a 95kg Angus steer bred by Dennis Mitchell from Nulla Nulla Creek selling for 625c/kg.
Weaner calves saw the biggest price jump this week with heavy weaner steers up to 330kg selling to a top of 472.2c/kg and averaging 425c/kg - an increase of 35c/kg from the previous sale.
Heifers in the same weight range generally sold from 470c/kg to 472c/kg.
Ian Argue from Kempsey Stock and Land said demand for light cattle was high as people continued to restock.
"People are prepared to wait and let the cattle grow into money," Mr Argue said.
Lightweight store cows sold to a top of 322.2c/kg and averaged 270c/kg while medium cows up to 520kg averaged 296c/kg.
Trade and feeder heifers were in demand from processors, backgrounders and re-stockers with the best making 396.2c/kg.
Heavy cows over 520kg made a top of 286c/kg.
