Buyers came from Adjungbilly, Tooma, Braidwood, Jerangle and Queanbeyan for the Helmsman sale of Ian and Cathy Darmody, Burbong Angus, Bungendore on Monday.
At least 11 of 15 bulls sold to a top of $9500 and an average of $5955. The top price bull Burbong P167 was purchased by Luke Graham, Crawford Angus, Adjungbilly. The two-year-old son of Myanga Kodiak H106 weighed 980kgs and had estimated breeding values of 5.9 for birth weight, +87 for 400-day weight, +120 for 600- day weight. He had a 40 centimetre scrotal circumference, an eye muscle area of 120 square centimetres and IMF of 7.1 per cent.
Mr Darmody described P167 as one of his best with a frame size of 7.6 but was still as soft as butter. He headed a strong field of well balanced, above average weight for age bulls that scanned exceptionally well but still kept their softness for their size, Mr Darmody said.
"It was great to see repeat buyers coming back to buy affordable industry bulls that perform," he said.
"We still get paid for weight at the feedlots and these bulls will produce calves the same way. We have kept star lot ADR P14 in our herd and left him in the yards for clients to see what is coming for the future and three clients wanted to buy him."
The sale was conducted by Nutrien.
