Wodonga store sale roars, prices up to 100c/kg dearer

The 1319 head of cattle yarded at Wodonga on Thursday sold to dearer market, stock attracting up to 100 cents per kilogram more than last sale with online bidders particularly active via StockLive.

There were 280 bids via the online platform, virtual buyers bidding on a third of the offering, purchasing 35 lots equating to 316 head.

The limited cows and calves on offer sold for a top of $2400. Reid Trust, Howlong, offered 14 six to eight-year-old Hereford cows with fresh calves at foot, they sold for $2070 a unit.

Good quality stud-bred Limousin heifers, pregnancy-tested-in-calf and weighing 600kg, offered by DA and MA Hempel, Huon, sold for $2300.

Brian Unthank agent Jim Hiscox said most feeder weight steers, weighing around 380kg to 420kg made from 390c/kg through to 440c/kg.

Per head, steers weighing more than 350kg sold from $930 to $1830.

The Norman family, Rutherglen, Vic, sold a pen of black baldy steers weighing 426kg for $1740, 408c/kg. Their seconds weighing 400kg sold for $1690, 422c/kg, while the thirds, 356kg, made $1570, 441c/kg.

C and C Packer, Bethanga, Vic, sold 50 Angus mixed sex calves, the tops weighed 366kg and sold for $1560, 430c/kg.

N and R Hodgkin, Mitta Mitta, Vic, offered 11 Hereford steers, 412kg, which made $1690 410c/kg. Their next pen of 12, 340kg, made $1520, 447c/kg.

There were very few lightweight steers on offer but what was there attracted a premium, selling for more than 500c/kg. Steers weighing under 200kg selling from $400 to $1100 a head.

Most heifers sold from $910 to $1640. The Singe family, Tallangatta Valley, Vic, sold a run of Charolais heifers, 344kg for $1380, 430c/kg. The seconds, 299kg, went for $1370, 458c/kg.

The Jones family, Huon, Vic sold Angus/Limousin heifers 329kg for $1410.

Mr Hiscox said buyers who were present at the sale were mostly local restockers but a few commission buyers were particularly active on the heifers.

The sale was conducted by Corcoran Parker, Brian Unthank Rural, Schubert Boers and Peter Ruaro.
