Inverell yarded 854 head of cattle at its special store sale on Thursday, much the same volume that was presented at its August sale with prices for light restocker steers stronger than ever, reaching 586 cents a kilogram (546c/kg last sale) with light heifers touching 512c/kg, unchanged from last month.
Steers 200kg to 300kg, 152 head, averaged 441c/kg or $1172, selling to a top of 551c/kg and $1340.
Steers 300kg to 400kg, 159 head, averaged 424c/kg or $1420 and reached a peak of 466c/kg and $1654 for one head sold by the Fomiatti family.
Angus steers, 378kg, with Dulverton blood sold by the Lawson family of Dundee through Colin Say and Co went to Whyalla feedlot for $1604 a head at 434c/kg during Thursday's Inverell store cattle sale.
Black steers, 314kg from Clerkness Pastoral Company, Bundarra, sold for $1378 a head at 438c/kg.
A handful of heavy steers to 400kg to 500kg averaged $1527 at 348c/kg.
Heifers attracted plenty of buyer competition with the light ones up to 200kg averaging 490c/kg or $847 and peaking at 512c/kg or $959.
Heifers 200kg to 300kg, 124 head, averaged 438c/kg or $1134 and topped at 470c/kg and $1298.
Heifers 300kg to 400kg, 175 head, averaged 406c/kg or $1320 reached a top of 424c/kg and $1500 for 16 head sold by Ward and Gosling.
Cows sold at open auction, 114 head, averaged $1528 and topped at $1800 for a pen of four sold by Allied Beef.
Cows with calves at foot from Corcoran Pastoral made $2500 at open auction.
