THE 32nd annual Tara Park Merino Ram Sale hit a $10,500 high today at Boorowa, with the high-seller off to stud duties.
Overall the Evans family sold 98 rams of the 100 offered, resulting in an average of $2521 that is on par with last year's results.
Simon King of Avonside Merino stud, Cooma, paid the top money of $10,500 for Tara Park 61, a son of the $60,000 Yarrawonga Don ram that was purchased in syndicate by the Tara Park stud in 2018.
He weighed 106 kilograms and measured 20.2 in the micron with a standard deviation (SD) of 2.8, coefficient of variation (CV) of 13.9 per cent and comfort factor (CF) of 99.7pc.
A repeat buyer at Tara Park, Mr King said the overall make and shape of the ram drew him in.
"He has fantastic wool and great staple length and density," he said.
The second top price of $6000 was made when Tara Park 71 went under the hammer, finally being knocked down to Overlea Holdings, Collendina, Corowa.
A son of leading Tara Park sire, Tara Park 6281, he was 19.1 in the micron with an SD of 2.7, CV of 14.1pc, CF of 99.8pc and body weight of 109kg.
Tara Park 65 was bought for the third top price of $5250 by LR and AL Picker, Binda.
A 19.5 micron son of the 6049 ram, he weighed 108kg and measured 2.8 SD, 14.4pc CV and 99.7pc CF.
The largest volume buyer was return clients JR and CL Gay, Glenview, Reids Flat, who took home nine rams and averaged $2194.
Derneveagh Pastoral Company, Harden, bought eight rams and averaged $2094, Sunnydale Partnership, Forbes, bought six rams and averaged $1208, and CA and KM Serverin, Woodside, Balldale, also bought six for a $1625 average.
Other woolgrowers from the Boorowa region were active and took home a number of rams including DJ and KF McGrath, Clearview, Boorowa, and Clearview Partnership, Boorowa, who bought five rams each and averaged $2600 and $2900, respectively.
Tara Park studmaster Guy Evans said they were happy with the result, with both repeat and new buyers active in the buyers list and a lot of the top rams sold into studs.
Interfaced with AuctionsPlus for the first time, eleven rams sold via the platform including a number sold to interstate buyers.
Victorian based IG and RJ Foletta, Benalla, purchased two rams for $2750 a piece.
The sale was conducted by Nutrien and Elders, with Rick Power, Nutrien, as the auctioneer.
