There were 1111 cattle yarded at the Grafton saleyards on Thursday, with the market stronger once again, lightweight heifers making up to 640 cents per kilogram.
David Farrell of Farrell and McCrohon said the numbers were a little back on the last store sale but the quality remained very good, the majority of the yarding made up of yearling and weaner cattle, weighing 250kg to 350kg.
Cows and calves were in limited supply with 57 in the draft. They sold for an average of $2192 and topped at $2860. Pregnancy-tested-in-calf cows made up to $2000, topping at 380c/kg.
The heavier portion of the steers, weighing 500kg to 600kg averaged 358c/kg, for a top of $2012 or 396c/kg.
Steers 400kg to 500kg topped at 420c/kg, making an average of 385c/kg.
The large number of steers weighing 250kg to 350kg topped at 550c/kg, while those under 200kg topped at 660c/kg.
Rob and Kerrie Di Mattia from Tucabia sold feeder Santa Hereford cross steers weighing 353kg for 432c/kg or $1525.
Mark and Annette Strong, Coombadjha Trust sold Brangus steers, 300kg, for 440c/kg or $1358.
Account Jannali Park, Great Marlow sold Charolais cross steers 230kg for 506c/kg, making $1160.
Brian and Anne Farrell sold Angus cross steers 220kg for 558c/kg, $1025.
Mr Farrell said the majority of heifers made from 400c/kg to 500c/kg, but the lighter weights sold to an exceptional 640c/kg.
HJ and NS Ensbey sold yearling Hereford heifers, 365kg for 430c/kg, $1565.
While, Heifer Station, Grafton sold Angus heifers, 212kg for 514c/kg, $1068.
Mr Farrell said all the cattle went away, most headed for the Western District and Northern Tablelands.
"Feedlotters were all very strong indeed, from both NSW and Queensland and a good portion of the younger cattle went back into Victoria," Mr Farrell said.
The sale was conducted by Farrell and McCrohon and Ray Donovan stock and station agencies.
