For the first time in months campdrafters were back in the saddle at Tamworth after an overwhelming response to the first event post-COVID-19 shutdowns.
The Tamworth and District Charity Campdraft received around 1800 nominations for their event that was slated for this Saturday and Sunday.
But due to the high demand and with some restrictions easing, the committee members were able to accept a larger volume of competitors and began working through the 1000 accepted runs with the start of the maiden draft on Friday.
President Amanda Nicholson and secretary/treasurer Alex Pope dedicated a lot of time to ensure the event could go ahead in a safe manner.
"We had very minimal scratchings and huge interest with another 900 runs who would have liked to come," Ms Nicholson said.
"We just hope that everyone has an enjoyable three days and wish everyone all the best.
"We thank all the cattle donors, sponsors and TDCC committee."
Once the online mega raffle is drawn at 2pm and the draft finishes on Sunday, the final funds will be divided among three local charities.
The junior draft had 32 nominations, 45 in the juvenile, 146 in the ladies, 267 in the maiden, 290 in the novice, 47 in the open 4 open and 135 in the open draft.
Many of the drafters who had already competed on Friday were unfazed by their results, just thankful to have the chance to ride. Some hadn't been in a campdraft since the Landmark Classic in February.
The action will kick off 6.30am on Saturday and Sunday at Koobah Performance Horses.
