FARMERS in parts of the Riverina are being urged to stop harvest as wild weather blows in.
The NSW Rural Rife Service released the Harvest Safety Alert on Tuesday morning, asking landholders undertaking harvest operations in the Wagga, Coolamon, Junee and Lockhart LGAs to stop until the forecast clears
Monitor weather conditions and forecasts before deciding when to resume operations.
The NSW RFS warn that under the current conditions, fires will start easily and spread rapidly. They have the potential to threaten life and property, as well as destroying millions of dollars worth of crop and equipment.
When in doubt, follow these steps:
- Stop: Stop Harvesting Operations
- Check: Check weather conditions, check the grain harvesting guide, and check your equipment
- Decide: Only resume operations if safe to do so and regularly reassess the conditions.
