If you're trying to achieve hybrid vigour within your commercial beef herd, then Thursday, February 11, 2021, is a date to mark on your calendar.

Some of the nation's best Black, Red and Traditional Simmentals as well as Sim-Angus bulls will go under the hammer when Woonallee Simmentals hold their annual on-property sale.

The renowned stud will be offering up 110 of their best bulls as well as 30 stud heifers. All will be sire verified and come with both genomics as well as EBVs.

In order for any animal to make it to sale at Woonallee Simmentals, they have to be of the highest quality, principal Tom Baker says.

The stud's motto is, "the very best in Simmental, whatever the requirement," and they strive to deliver on that promise.

The stud has been breeding Simmentals for nearly 50 years and has a large genetic base to work from. They have 800 stud cows and use the latest technologies to ensure they're on the right track.

They also source the very best genetics they can find - from both within Australia and overseas - and have a strong focus on outcomes.

All of their bulls and heifers undergo rigorous structural assessments, with a strong focus on both their phenotypes and EBVs.

Thanks to the size of their herd, they can ensure that only the very best bulls make it to auction, meaning consistently better results for their clients.

"We're very passionate about what we do and what we breed. We're extremely critical about what gets to sale," Mr Baker explained.

"We're purely a registered Simmental bull breeding operation. Our main aim is to breed bulls to go into commercial operations to either producer early finishing calves at 9 to 12 months or have the flexibility to grow them onto a 15 or 18 month old bullock," he continued.

"Simmentals are renowned for early and fast growth, good muscling, good milk and the ability to either sell early or sell late."

Operating from Furner, in South Australia, they primarily sell to clients in South Eastern Australia and the Western District of Victoria.

However, the stud has clients all over the country, catering to both pure bred Simmental herds - Red, Black and Traditional - as well as commercial herds seeking hybrid vigour. For many, the investment is paying dividends.

"The main feedback we're getting (from our clients) is that the fast growth, softness and the extra carcass weight they're getting is really adding value (to their operations), both in the steers their selling and the improvements in their female herd..." he said.

"It's all about value adding. So, if we can add a bit of hybrid vigour and add the muscle and the more growth and extra carcass value which comes with the Simmental, I think it has a great ability to add to any commercial heard, whether it's an Angus herd, a Hereford herd or even an F1."

The on property sale will take place at the stud's Furner property on Thursday, February 11. It will also be live streamed on Elite Livestock Auctions for anybody who can't attend.
