As NSW moved into its new covid-normal world, many North Coast residents were forced to bunker down and some even evacuate as wild weather and minor flooding hit many areas.
Massive rainfall totals were building from late Friday, climbing over 300mm in many far North Coast centres, especially near the Queensland border.
Several flood warnings were issued by the Bureau of Meteorology, with a general flood watch for the Mid North Coast and Northern River catchments, minor flood warnings for the Tweed, Wilsons and Brunswick Rivers and a minor to moderate flood warning for the Bellinger river.
Some of the totals so far to Sunday, with many expecting another 150mm today included:
Couchy Creek: 365mm
Numinbah: 348mm
Chillingham: 306mm
Bilambil Heights: 302mm
Tumbulgum: 276mm
Tweed Heads: 251mm
Mullumbimby 231mm
Murwillumbah: 227mm.
The Land's Jamie Brown reported: "There was water lying in sugar cane farms in low areas east of Coraki on the Richmond River where minor flooding is expected.
"There's flash flooding on the Tweed and parts of the Brunswick catchments. Beach erosion at Byron and nice rain west to Tenterfield. Dams still haven't filled so a lot of this water is soaking in. The North Coast needed it badly."
Meantime, the Lismore Chamber of Commerce put on a special snow event for residents in Lismore's mall with a snow machine bringing delight to children who'd gone through a rough year with COVID lockdowns, drought and bushfires.
There were plenty of young people to enjoy the snow event at the mall.
Not much of the rain has headed west into parched areas of the far Northern Tablelands, but some rain is expected during the week.
