The Wodonga weaner sales kick off today, with 1818 head yarded for the Elders and Nutrien Paull and Scollard black cattle sale.
The strength of the prime cattle market during Monday's sales bode well for a solid price trend at the sales, with the Eastern Young Cattle Indicator reaching 758.75 cents a kilogram (carcase weight) at the end of trading yesterday.

Although that's below the closing figure in 2020, the Victorian markets on Monday were somewhat dearer than a month earlier.
Today's yarding, which is back on last year's 3200 head, will include a run of 200 mixed-sex Angus weaners, seven to nine months, with Witherswood and Jarobee Angus blood from Three Rivers Angus, formally Jomon Agriculture, Kancoona,Victoria.
C. Boyd and Son, Bobinawarrah, Vic, will also offer a large run of 120 weaners, 10 to 12 months, also with Witherswood and Jarobee Angus blood.
The sale starts at 9am at the Northern Victoria Livestock Exchange saleyards and is the first of four sales held at Wodonga this week.
Tomorrow will feature the independent agents black cattle weaner sale, Thursday will be the Elders and Nutrien Paull and Scollard coloured cattle sale and the week will end with an offering of the independent agents' coloured cattle.
A new fixture at Wangaratta has also been added to this year's calendar, to be held on Wednesday afternoon following the independent agents' black cattle sale at Wodonga.
Ag border permits available just in time for weaner sales
NSW agents, vendors and buyers now able to attend with a border permit.
On Monday, agricultural workers were added to the list of "permitted workers" able to apply for a permit to travel to Victoria following the new year's eve border closure due to the Sydney COVID-19 outbreak.
The Victorian Department of Health and Human Services' website states permits should be received within five minutes of submitting an application.
NSW and Victoria "border bubble" residents are able to cross the border without a permit, using their driver's license to prove their residential address. A list of Local Government Areas within the border bubble can be found here.
Northern Victoria Livestock Exchange said access to the saleyards is allowed for NVLX staff, agents, genuine buyers, vendors with livestock in the sale, transporters and media reporters.
NVLX management have recommended children do not attend sales however, if this is not possible no children will be permitted in the selling area to allow buyers free access to pens.

NVLX has also reminded attendees it is mandatory in Victoria to wear a mask when indoors, which includes saleyard offices and the canteen.
Elders Albury agent Brett Shea said he did not believe the border restrictions would have a negative impact on the sales now permits were available for the agricultural industry.
"Commonsense has prevailed and those people (from outside the border bubble in NSW) can now attend as an essential worker," Mr Shea said.
"We want them there, we want as many people there as we can get."
