Trainers and owners with horses based in the Central District Racing Associated (CDRA) had their chance to qualify a runner in the $500,000 Newhaven Park Country Championships at Mudgee last weekend.
The final which will be held on Saturday, April 3 at Royal Randwick includes the first and second placed runners from each of the seven districts which make up country racing in NSW. This year the CDRA representatives are trained at Wellington and Bathurst.
Dunedoo's Hugh Bowman travelled up from Sydney after his hectic Saturday at Randwick's Chipping Norton race day (he had two wins) to ride at the meeting, continuing his great support of country racing. He had several rides for local trainer Cameron Crockett. They combined for two wins on the day.
The winner of the $150,000 Mudgee heat was Old Harbour from the Michael Mulholland stables at Wellington and was ridden by stable apprentice, Kath Bell-Pitomac. The runner-up, Hamogany who was ridden by Nyngan based jockey Clayton Gallagher is trained by Dean Mirfin at Tyers Park Bathurst.
