The auctioneer fought hard to be heard over the thundering of torrential rain in the sale shed at Kanimbla Poll Herefords on Thursday, but the weather did not dampen the bids with bulls selling to a top price of $13,000 and heifers to $6500.

In the first autumn sale for the Holbrook stud (having moved from a spring on-property auction), there were 24 of 26 bulls offered sold for an average of $8041. They also sold all 10 pregnancy-tested-in-calf heifers for an average of $4950.
The sale featured nine bulls by world renowned US sire NJW 79Z Z311 Endure 173D. They sold for an average of $9444, which included three bulls sold for $12,000.
The top-priced bull, Kanimbla Wallace Q065, was a son of Glentrevor Wallace H427 and sold to Glenn Bowman of Ridgeview Herefords, Rosedale, Vic via AuctionsPlus.
Kanimbla stud principal James McWilliam said they had used the two-year-old sale-topper as their main joining sire for their Spring heifers.
"He has beautiful soft skin on him, a really good skin and hair type, the cow line that he is out of is very proven, a really functional family, they just don't miss - so he's a hard bull to fault and very predictable in what he's going to do," Mr McWilliam said.
The 750 kilogram bull had a calving ease direct percentage of +12 and intramuscular fat of +1.7, both values in the top five per cent of the breed.
Of the three Endure sons which sold for $12,000, two were snapped up by the Rogers family, Gelantipy, Vic. One of their bulls, Kanimbla Endure Q007, was the heaviest in the draft, tipping the scales at 905kg.
The other $12,000 sire, Kanimbla Quantum Q021, sold to the Hurley family of Condobolin. Brad Hurley said the bull had an impressive EBV package, with growth and carcase weight values in the top one per cent.
"It had a lot of meat, we've got frame in our cattle but now we're looking to put more meat on and that's a meat bull," Mr Hurley said.
The Hurleys run 320 cows alongside their dorper operation and have been in the cattle game for 70 years.
The bull was one of two the Hurleys purchased, the family also managing to take home a second Endure son for $6000.
Kanimbla were one of the first studs in Australia to have Endure calves on the ground and Mr McWilliam said he thought the sire was the best they had used to date.
"He had five sons that we used out of the first drop of bull calves, we've invested heavily in him and we believe in the bull," Mr McWilliam said.
The top priced PTIC heifer, sold for $6500, was purchased by Lancasker Herefords, Lancasker, Victoria. The stud purchased another 18-month-old PTIC heifer for $5000.
YavenVale Herefords, Adelong also purchased two heifers for $5500.
There was interest from across NSW and Victoria, as well as Queensland.
The sale was conducted by Nutrien and Elders with Peter Godbolt (Nutrien) taking the bids.
