The 'old guard'
So, former deputy Prime Minister John Anderson is now going to offer himself again to represent the Nationals, throwing his hat in the ring for the Senate pre-selection for the next election.
This is the same bloke who 15 years ago left Parliament for his health and to spend more time with his family, and what did he do then?
Why he joined a gas company so he could screw the same farmers who put him into Parliament in the first place.
Is it any wonder the Nationals are considered a joke to most country people.
Don't give a younger, smart person the chance to represent country people.
Just re-elect the "old guard" and keep some young progressive thinker out.
As a farmer and businessman who meets farmers daily I am amazed that this "priviledged one" even has the gall to consider another chance to get his snout into the trough once more.
Ah well, just another vote for the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers.

Challenging gas
It was heartening to read that the Mullaley Gas and Pipeline Accord (MGPA) group is seeking the NSW Land and Environment Court's review of the Independent Planning Commission's decision to approve the Santos Narrabri gas project.
The project is huge and the proposed 850 wells would, over its lifetime, contribute the equivalewnt of a quarter of Australia's current annual greenhouse gas emissions.
The struggle of ordinary Australians, supported by crowd funding, against fossil fuel developments, is being fought increasingly in the courts.

In February, a group of farmers won a High Court appeal against the New Acland coalmine in Queensland's Darling Downs.
In March, a group of eight teenagers launched a class action in the Federal Court against Environment Minister Sussan Ley over the Vickery coalmine near Gunnedah.
The support of former Australian chief scientist Penny Sackett for the MGPA group is in contrast to the views of current chief scientist Alan Finkel who is pro gas.
