Some very good lines of cows with calves and young steers were offered today at NVLX Wodonga, when 2099 head were yarded.
In a yarding dominated by black cattle, quality ranged from fat to backward store but values were determined in line with current demand for restocker and feedlot entry stock.
Values for steers weighing 300 to 400kg ranged from $1770 (11 Angus, 326kg) to $1890 (16 Angus, 383kg) while those under 300kg sold to $1770 (30 Angus, 299kg).
Yearling steers above 400kg sold from $1845 (5 Angus, 406kg) to $2190 (10 Angus, 489kg).
In the heifer pens, values for stock weighing 300 to 400kg ranged $1620 (12 Angus, 345kg) to $1775 (24 Angus, 379kg) while those under 300 kg sold from $1110 (seven Hereford, 211kg) to $1520 (17 Composite, 271kg).
Heifers over 400kg sold from $1665 (one Charolais, 408kg) to $1810 (11 Angus, 500kg).
PTIC heifers sold for $1640 while cows sold from $2000 to $2600 and cows with calves topped at $3525.
Representative sales of steers included 11 Angus, weighing 369kg sold by Meringo Pastoral Co, Rand for $1780: 10 Angus, weighing 489kg sold on account HI and LA Hurley, Tallangatta Valley, Victoria for $2190 and eight Herefords weighing 285kg sold by Timberlane Pastoral Co, Tallangatta South, Vic for $1530.
In the heifer pens Geoffrey Cheshire Family Trust, Wangaratta, Vic sold 24 Angus weighing 379kg for $1775: Jean Wilcox, Omeo, Vic received $1110 for seven Herefords weighing 211kg and Glencoe Pastoral Co, Holbrook sold 17 Composite, weighing 271kg for $1520.
Six Angus cows with calves sold by Boelgi Pastoral Co., Denilquin made $3525 while 13 Angus, six to nine years sold for $2600 on account DKF Heywood, Everton, Vic.
The sale was conducted by Wodonga agents Elders and Paull and Scollard Nutrien.
