YARD records broke for shedding sheep at Condobolin last Thursday during the first sale of its type in 12 years when Australian White ewes fetched $610 a head.
Interest in the sale was far and wide with the record-priced pen and another two drafts bought by an undisclosed buyer from central Victoria through Nutrien, Wagga Wagga, on AuctionsPlus.
The record-priced pen was a draft of 53 Australian White ewes sired by Urah rams and from Tattykeel blood ewes, September, 2020 drop weighing an average 52 kilograms, bred by Angus Girle and brother-in-law, Jeff Peters Urah Australian Whites, Condobolin.
Urah stud was renamed by Mr Girle when he purchased the Ryan's Run stud flock off Paddy McCumstie in 2017. The record sale follows a January sale on AuctionsPlus by Mr Girle of similar ewes fetching $601.
The Victorian buyer also won the whole offering of 311 Australian White ewe lambs paying $404 for each mob. They were June/July'20 drop of Glenowra and Urah blood and station mated to Urah rams and bred by Jason and Paul Kennard, Bogandool Partnership, Condobolin.
Best Presented pen award wen to Bruce and Carol Stonestreet, Glen-Ayr, Tottenham, for their 160 Dorper ewe lambs of Burrawang blood and station mated to Kaya and Prieska rams. They sold to Tom Ryan, Kimaculla, Condobolin.
Most successful vendor was the Colless family, Fountaindale, Condobolin, who sold White Dorper ewe lambs and aged ewes.
A pen of Colless' 53 White Dorper ewe lambs of Tullinga and Annalara blood, February/March'220 drop and scanned in lamb (SIL) to White Dorper rams, sold at $432 a head to Andre Haworth and Tarmia Healey, Old Marys, Condobolin.
The couple also paid $360 a head for 106 older ewes of 2017, 18 and 19 drop also SIL, plus 61 ewes 2015-16 drop at $330 a head.
Peter Page and family, Waitera, Trundle, gained $422 a head for 71 Australian White/White Dorper cross ewes, 12 to 14 months depastured with Timor Australian White rams bought by a Forbes restocker.
Another pen from The Page family sold at $402 to Noel Sunderland and Sue Healey, Weir View, Condobolin. They were 144 ewes of the same breeding but November/December 2018 drop and also running with Timor sires.
Brad Hurley and family, Kalabra, Condobolin, gained $330 a head for 216 July/August'20 drop White Dorper ewes of Annalara blood depastured with Annalara Ultra White and White Dorper rams when purchased by Darren Frankel of Tullibigeal.
