Cracking heifer awarded the female grand championship at Murray Grey show

When addressing the online audience, Mrs Halliday said she realised the decision in awarding the sash to a junior was controversial.

"There aren't too many who would put a ten month female over a cow but to me she is absolutely special," she said.

"I think she is a rare opportunity for the breed to change direction - to get that extra quality, that depth of flank, is easy to talk about but I think is really hard to achieve."

Mrs Halliday noted the heifer's structure and presence was rare, with the combination of her natural femininity, extension and length through her front and which follows through to her hips and pin.

"She has balance and softness and on top of that she has absolute quality."

Prairie Falls Capri Lass R10 was the youngest female in the show and has an impeccable pedigree.

She is the daughter of GF Capri Lass L23 and sired by Bottlesford Kudos K18, recognised as a cornerstone of productive reliability for the breed.

During the online auction, the champion heifer was bought by KA and RW Dawson, The Flags, Armidale, for $4750.

The senior champion female sash was awarded to Ayr Park Trial & Error J24.

Exhibited by the Double A Cattle Company, Glen William, judge Erica Halliday was very impressed by the structure of the matron and her bull calf sired by Wallawong Magic Man.

"I love her absolute wedge shape," Mrs Halliday said.

"She has great depth of body and is an absolutely powerful female with a tremendous head, structure and udder.

"Her bull calf is an absolute thumper."

The PTIC senior champion cow with her bull calf was bought by Wise Family Trust, Katanning, WA for $7000.

The grand champion bull was thought by judge Erica Halliday as the 'natural winner' who would become a real asset in any Murray Grey herd.

"We've had a number of fabulous bulls on display and lots of choice and opportunity because there are so many different types," she said.

"So basically it was 'horses for courses'.

"He is the epitome of balance and she shows wonderful length and combination of natural thickness and beautiful structure."

Mrs Halliday was further impressed by the effortless way the bull moves.

"You can tell by the way he moves, he just glides and everything is right about the way he is put together," she said.

"He is smooth in his outlook and has real sire appeal."

The grand champion bull, sired by ES Quaifier out of top female ES Petrina L22. was bought by BS Davidson and DR Chaplin, Yabba North, Victoria, for $5000.
