A STRONG yarding of just under 3200 head were on offer at the fortnightly Tamworth store cattle sale last Thursday.
Despite the yarding being smaller than the 4000-head offered at the previous sale, prices continued to firm as a run of Angus steers from Colomendy Property, Guyra, topped the sale at $1960 per head.
Also featuring at the higher end of steers was a run of eight-to-nine-month-old Angus from Belandi Ag, Blackville, which sold for $1910/hd.

Steers were back on the $2010/hd top from the last sale, but most prices ranged from $1300/hd to $1960/hd.
McCulloch Agencies stock agent Mitchell Swain, Tamworth, said while the overall quality of the yarding was back, there was still "plenty of value" in lighter steers.
"It was a very strong sale but there was a bit of value in cattle in the $1300-$1500 range if you wanted a crossbred steer or something like that," Mr Swain said.
"From the outside it may look like a lot of money, but I certainly think there is still some value there."
A run of 15-17 month-old Angus heifers sold by Garvin and Cousens on behalf of the Parry Trust, Guyra, topped the sale at $1850/hd, while 9-10 month-old heifers from Belandi Ag were the highlight of the younger heifers, selling for $1750/hd.
Most prices for heifers ranged from $1300/hd to $1850/hd.
Limited cows and calves were offered on Friday, however prices rose from the previous sale as the peak of the category was reached by a run of Braford cows and calves offered by Drumalbyn, Ogunbil, which sold for $3775/hd, up from a top of $3350/hd at the last sale.
"I think that was a fantastic result for those vendors," Mr Swain said. "That looked to be a massive sale on the day and indicative of what was a pretty strong sale overall."
Prices for cows and calves ranged from $2445/hd to $3775/hd.
It was a similar story for pregnancy tested in calf heifers, which also remained firm from the previous sale.
A run of Ultrablack two-year-old cows pregnant to an Angus bull topped the category at $2420/hd, while most PTIC cows brought more than $2090/hd.
The sale was conducted by the Tamworth Livestock Selling Agents Association.
