MORE than 460 head of cattle were offered at the monthly Singleton store sale last Saturday, a yarding which was down 70 head from last month.
Pregnancy-tested-in-calf cows dominated the market due to a limited number of weaner steers and heifers.
A pen of Hereford cross Charolais weaner steers from a local Singleton producer topped at $1850 per head, while dairy-cross calves weighing 150-160 kilograms were at the cheaper end of the category, selling for $700/hd.
A run of Angus heifers from a Dungog producer topped at $1360/hd, while the cheaper heifers were from the same run of dairy-cross calves and also brought $700/hd.

Roger Fuller Agencies stock agent Jason Bower, Singleton, said a line of Westbrook, Singleton, PTIC cows topped at $2600/hd.
"They were six-to-eight-year-old Angus cows pregnant to an Angus bull and were the dearest PTIC heifers on the day, while other good runs made about $1800/hd and plenty of others were making $2000/hd and $2200/hd," Mr Bower said.
"As for the cows and calves, there was plenty of aged cows and the bulk of them made $2400 with calves at foot.
"But the younger cows with nice calves at foot were making around $3000.
"Overall, I thought the market was pretty firm considering the overall quality of yarding, obviously we would have liked a few more cattle but we still attracted plenty from Dungog, the Lower Hunter and here locally as well."
