PEAK Hill based rural contractor Nathan Leach was recently awarded the 2021 Dubbo Show BDM Rural Achiever award, an honour he looks forward to.
A 25-year-old with a passion for breeding and showing cattle, he said country shows were important for highlighting resilience, especially after years of drought followed by bushfires and COVID.
"Our local shows are probably one of the most important things in our area and we need to promote them the best we can," he said.
"It brings the whole community together and is great for everyone involved."

Mr Leach not only wants to be an ambassador for youth in agriculture, but hopes to promote the show society movement while growing his own rural livestock contracting business, NJL Rural Contracting.
"I want to continue developing my business to my cliental and create an employee base, and I'm the path to do so," he said.
"At the moment I've been doing a lot of sheep work... Croppers have realised sheep are a necessity for cash flow, so it has been keeping me busy."
At the Dubbo event he was working with Hollywood Angus, Peak Hill which won the interbreed breeder's group and most successful exhibitor of the cattle section.
Wanting to broaden the awareness of agriculture and the rural achiever program, Mr Leach entered his local show's rural achiever competition aimed to find the person most suited to represent young, regional men and women of NSW.

Mr Leach said it is so important to get more people involved in youth in agriculture. They are the next generation and they need to be signified and know of programs like this that can open up their networks and further develop them.
In the last week Mr Leach has travelled over 7500 kilometres from as far north as Rockhampton for Beef Australia 2021 to his home in Peak Hill and every where between to engage with the latest happenings in the industry, network with likeminded individuals and build his business.
He now will look at the possibility of applying for the RAS Rural Achiever award at the Sydney Royal Show.
