WORKING dog enthusiasts are set to get a taste of some of Australia's best canine talent with an inaugural auction on the calendar in September.
The Holbrook Working Dog Auction will be held at the town's equine centre on Saturday, September 18 and is anticipated to attract a catalogue of around 40 lots.
Lachie Williams of Ray White Rural and Livestock Albury calls Holbrook home, and said he believed it was an ideal location to promote the virtues of working dogs.

He said more people in the rural sector were appreciating the value of a talented dog. Mr Williams said if recent high prices were to be a guide, good values could be expected at the Holbrook sale.
In a reflection of the diverse nature of farming there will be dogs on offer that are trained to work sheep, cattle or both.
And in a spectacle, for both potential buyers and those simply interested in attending the event for entertainment value, there will be an opportunity to see all of the dogs put through their paces in a pre-works.
Mr Williams said the pre-works starts at 8am and for others who want to connect online and watch from home the event will be interfaced with Stocklive.com.au.
"People are certainly wanting working dogs," he said.
"There is a lot of demand."
Mr Williams said the event was a first for Holbrook and he believed the town was well placed to make the auction an annual fixture.
"I think it is a great opportunity for local people and those in the farming industry," he said.
"People see working dogs as a valuable asset," he said.
Mr Williams said he anticipated the catalogue to be diverse with different breeds, different specialties and capabilities represented.
He said it was also likely the sale would draw vendors from Victoria and NSW and there was scope for entries from further afield too.
The sale has embraced terms and conditions and will be reinforced by veterinarians who can provide checks to prospective purchasers.
