BUYERS from as far away as Tamworth, Dunedoo and across the Hunter Valley flocked to the Scone saleyards on Thursday for the annual Hunter Valley Angus Breeders Association female sale.
The sale, which had to be cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, attracted a yarding of more than 1600 head from 23 vendors across the Hunter Valley.
A run of 15 three-year-old cows each with their second calf at foot offered by Bertola Investments, Yarralee, Casslis, claimed the champion pen award and topped the market for $3600 a unit.

Cows and calves made up the majority of the yarding and the even quality of stock presented meant there was little between the prices paid by the large amount of restockers in attendance.
A number of pens sold for as much as $3450, while most prices ranged from $2900 to the sale high $3600.
Pregnancy-tested-in-calf (PTIC) heifers topped at $2950 a head for 18 20-to-22-month-old heifers in calf to LBW Waverley Angus bulls from Waverley Station, Gundy.
Waverley Station also topped the PTIC cow market with eight three-year-old Waverley-bred cows back in calf to Waverley bulls that made $3075/hd.
The run narrowly edged out a pen of seven four-year-old cows also offered by Waverley Station, which sold for $2900/hd and won the award for best PTIC pen.
A pen of nine 2019-drop PTIC heifers offered by Jada Grazing Partnership, Merriwa, also sold well, fetching $2475/hd.
Henderson Partnership, Scone sold 10 two-year-old black baldy heifers in calf to a Brooksby Angus bulls for $2450/hd producer.
Evenness in quality meant prices were equally tight in the PTIC market, ranging from $1650/hd to $2950/hd.
A limited number of unjoined and weaner heifers were offered on Thursday and a run of 16 20-to-22-month-old black baldy heifers offered by Numulgi Pastoral Company topped the category at $1975/hd.
Prices ranged from $1220/hd to the $1975/hd top.
The sale was conducted by the Hunter Valley Angus Breeders Association with McGrath Agents, Upper Hunter, Nutrien Livestock, Scone and Davidson Cameron and Co, Scone sharing the auctioneering duties.
