Limited numbers of store cattle yarded at NVLX Wodonga last Thursday has meant some buyers are missing out on buying replacement stock.
Only 855 head were penned, and the quality was 'very good', according to Michael Unthank, BUR Wodonga, director when quoting the sale.
"Numbers were low, but there was very strong demand from restockers and feedlots," Mr Unthank said.
"The feedlots were operating on the top end of the steer job while supermarkets were taking the heavier heifers.
"Interest for heifers was very strong.
"With the limited numbers on offer we have clients who are still looking for cattle."
Mr Unthank quoted steers at 480-500kg selling for 450c/kg while weaners up to 350kg were making up to 530c/kg.
"Lighter cattle were selling for over 600c/kg," he said.
Values for steers weighing 300-400kg varied from $1585 (3 Limousin cross weighing 303kg) to $1940 (nine Herefords weighing 389kg); while those over 400kg sold to $2380 (12 Angus weighing 519kg) and five Charolais cross weighing 555kg sold for $2140.
Steers under 300kg sold from $1260 (five Angus weighing 209kg) to $1600 (five Angus weighing 292kg).
In the heifer pens, four Limousin weighing 367kg sold for $1700: three Angus weighing 308kg sold for $1375 and 12 Angus weighing 294kg sold for $1490.
Unjoined heifers weighing 454kg sold for $1900 while eight Shorthorn cows weighing 655kg sold for $1880.
