A consortium of livestock agents from Glen Innes and Inverell have won the Casino Beef Week led steer carcase competition, scoring 91.46 points in a Meat Standards Australia assessment including a 20 out of 20 for eye muscle area, which measured the greatest of the draft at 151 square centimetres.
The Limousin/Hereford bought out of the Inverell saleyards was initially assessed and then prepared by four mates, organised by Shad Bailey with Nathan Ensbey from Colin Say and Co, Glen Innes; Ben McMahon, from Lehman Stock and Property; and livestock buyer with NH Foods Whyalla Beef, Bronson McLay.
At 578 kilograms live with an ossification score of 110 he dressed out the highest in the competition at 63.01 per cent with perfect rib and rump fat scores.
Experienced Beef Week competitors Amanda and Olivia O'Reilly, Iron Pot Pastoral, were awarded reserve carcase on 91.01pts for their own bred black baldy steer from a Santa Gertrudis/Hereford cow by a black Limousin bull.
At 453kg with an ossification score of just 100 he dressed at 61.37pc with perfect rib and rump fat and EMA, with the latter measuring 98sq cm.
The Nicholls family from Rukenvale, exhibiting under the banner Took-a-while Show Steers, scored 90.11pt for a Limousin/Santa, 510kg with 110 for ossification, dressing at 59.14pc. He had perfect rump and EMA - at 109 sq cm - while scoring 8/10 for lean rib fat.
All of the steers presented with pH levels from 5.43 to 5.73.
