Branding your product is a very acceptable marketing concept.
It establishes the provenance and integrity of that product and in recent years leading cattle studs have embraced the idea.
The Gilmore family, breeders of the Tattykeel Australian White stud at Oberon have launched the 'Tattykeel Certified' program to ensure clients have confidence in the genetic integrity of the sheep purchased.
Studmaster Graham Gilmore noted during the past several years there have been a number of instances where people are selling their Australian White ewes on-line claiming that they are Tattykeel Australian Whites when the animals have not been sired by Tattykeel rams.
"In order to provide purchasers with an assurance that the animals they are purchasing are actually sired by Tattykeel rams, Tattykeel is launching a 'Tattykeel Certified' tag for Tattykeel Australian White clients to use on their commercial ewes," Mr Gilmore said..
The red tags will be provided by Tattykeel to their clients and it simply reads 'Tattykeel Certified'.
"We hope this will clear up much of the confusion as to whether the ewes being sold (particularly on-line) are by Tattykeel rams," Mr Gilmore said..
"The first group of commercial Australian White ewes going under the hammer to carry the tag were bred by Col and Rosemary Adler of West Wyalong.
"They were Tattykeel's first Australian White ram clients, so it's only fitting that we launch the program with their ewes."
Mr Gilmore said all Tattykeel clients will have access to the 'Tattykeel Certified' tags and can contact the team at Tattykeel for further details.
Mr Adler has been a Tattykeel client since 2011 when he heard Graham Gilmore speaking on the ABC and he thought the breed would compliment his decision to breed shedding sheep.
"I was already down that path and the Tattykeel Australian Whites have given my sheep growth and carcase quality," he said.
Mr Adler has listed 40 August 2000 drop ewes, scanned in lamb on AuctionsPlus for next Tuesday sales.
