2021 and Beyond - the future of agriculture

That is the background to a forum to be held in Temora on July 27, 2021.

With high prices for their commodities and record values being paid for farming land, it would be understandable to assume primary producers are enjoying a 'purple patch' of returns which might induce a sense of complacency.

That is the last emotion Craig Pellow, director of agency QPL Rural, Temora, wants to see happen to famers who have survived many years of drought, so he is hosting this forum.

"While we are having a good season and great sheep prices, now is the time to build on what we have and contemplate the future," he said.

With the theme - 2021 and Beyond - the future of agriculture featuring Australian Whites (next big thing) - Mr Pellow is inviting all primary producers to attend the day long event and listen to the wide ranging discussions led by the key note speakers.

They include David Goodfellow, CBRE, who will address the current cycle of agriculture worldwide: Steve Chapman, livestock manager JBS, who will draw attention to the global meat market and Chris Howie, Stockco, who will discuss issues around financing livestock trading and breeding operations.

With the focus on Australian White sheep as the 'next big thing', breed founder Graham Gilmore, Tattykeel, Oberon, will highlight the genetic gains made since the breed's inception and its place within the national and international prime lamb market.

He will be joined by Mark Best, ambassador chef from Margra Lamb, who will place the Australian White within the context of demand for lamb eating quality, and Jack and Peter Gordon, Livestock Production and Farm Advisory, who will speak about managing the feed requirements of highly productive Australian White sheep.

Angus Street, AuctionsPlus will talk about the future of online livestock, machinery and property marketing through that platform and a panel of Australian White Producers will sit in during a Q&A session.

"The idea is another information day about Australian Whites with our guest speakers focusing on the future of Australian agriculture," Mr Pellow said.

The forum is open to all with an interest in the future of agriculture and will be held at the Farmlink, Temora, research station.
