There was plenty of excitement at the 2021 SA Junior Heifer Expo this week as it made a comeback after COVID-19 forced its cancellation last year.

There was plenty of excitement at the 2021 SA Junior Heifer Expo this week as it made a comeback after COVID-19 forced its cancellation in 2020.

Despite there still being plenty of uncertainty surrounding COVID restrictions in many states this week the event went off successfully.

Nearly 150 entrants, aged 8 to 24 years, from SA, Vic, Tas and WA competed in judging and junior judging over the four days at the Adelaide Showgrounds as well as participating in a comprehensive education program.

Many new friendships were forged at the event, while others were excited to be back with their mates and showing cattle again.

The heifer judging took place on Wednesday with Ben Davies from Meadows, SA officiating and 2018 senior champion herdsman Lewis Bruggemann, Mallala, SA his associate judge.

Charolais and Angus breeder, Josh Wiltshire, Imperial Partners, Mount Pleasant, SA who won several champion parader ribbons at the Expo over many years as an entrant was invited back to judge the handlers today (Thursday).

Red Angus breeder Angus Llewellyn, Willalooka, SA was thrilled to win the prestigious senior champion herdsman award in his first year competing in the senior section.
