A single Angus steer, 140 kilograms, from Dean Kroenhert, Braunstone, set a new record at Grafton on Thursday with bids rising beyond expectation to 798.2 cents a kilogram.
Producers took advantage of ripe prices, swelling the yards with 1781 head, more than double initial estimates from the week prior.
Steers to 400 kilograms, 858 head, averaged 636.9c/kg or $1442.18 (581c/kg and $1369.59 at last month's store sale), reaching a top of $1969.12.
Heifers to 540kg, 526hd, averaged 550.5c/kg or $1200.80 and reached a top of 680.2 and 2032.40. Last month's averages were 536.7c/kg and $1193.78.
"There were plenty of bids above 750c/kg," reported agent David Farrell. "I thought last month was the pinnacle but we went past it."
Buyers came from northern New England and southern Queensland with feedlotters very strong.
Light Angus from Kahuna at Ulmarra, 150kg, made 792c/kg or $1190.
The Carlton family, Ulmarra, sold tropically-adapted Brangus, 380kg and milk tooth to a Moree feedlotter for 508c/kg or $1940.
Angus cross yearling steers, 273kg, from Michelle Harrison, Lawrence, made 630.2c/kg or $1793
European accredited Angus from Bill McLennan, Waterview, 240kg, made 756c/kg.
Droughtmaster cows from Geoff Gaddes, Coldstream, made $2475.
The sale was conducted by Ray Donovan and Farrell McCrohan stock and station agencies.
