A SMALLER yarding of 1150 head attracted strong competition among restockers from Blayney, Molong, and southern areas as well as locals at last Friday's Dubbo store cattle sale.
Ray White agent, Dan Armitage, said the sale was strong, especially for females with weaner Angus heifers selling from $1160 to $1530 a head.
One pen of eight pregnany-tested-in-calf Charbray heifers joined to Choice low-birth-weight bulls to start calving late September fetched $1910 each for Michael Brennan, Wambangalang.
Light Angus weaners sold to $1470 with heavier drafts making up to $1760. Black baldy weaner steers weighing up to 200 kilograms topped the weaner market at $1570 while a pen of heavier baldies fetched $1400 each.
Thirsty younger Charolais weaner steers ranged in price from $1040 to $1380 while 77 weighing under 280kg sold from $1260 to $1530.
Bos Indicus steer calves made from $1360 to $1490.
In the 200kg to 280kg heifer weaner category, Bos Indicus-crosses sold to $1390 while European and Euro-cross heifers found demand to sell up to $1510.
Highlight of the cow/calf units was a selection of 12 large-framed heavy Charolais matrons weighing more than 550kg and trailing big calves at foot of upwards of four to six months of age demanding $3600 a unit.
Thirty Bos Indicus-cross cows with calves two to four months made from $1730 to $2300 a unit while 15 Santa Gertrudis units of cows weighing from 400kg to 550kg with calves two to four months sold at $1920/unit.
Cows with young calves to two months ranged in price from $1910 to $2520 for black baldies and Santa Gertrudis making $2390/unit.
PTIC cows totalling some 50 head made from $1700 for Bos Indicus crosses to $2100 for Shorthorns all in the 400kg to 550kg weight range.
Heavy cows over 550kg sold from $1700 for Bos Indicus to $2305 for Herefords.
