Amos Vale Herefords, Brooklington at Pinkett sold 26 of 27 bulls to a top of $21,000 at an average of $10,480 at their 54th annual sale on Thursday, with all bulls kept in their yards while video screens presented each one walking and standing as they came up for auction. The technology made for a quick sale while the ability for clients to see sires on the move was an advantage.
Chris Lisle, Tummel Herefords at Walcha nodded the top bid for Amos Vale Hustler Q013 by Hylands Baker L525. The 982kg sire, 23 months of age, scanned with a 131 square centimetre eye muscle area; 14mm for rib fat and 9mm for rump.
"He is an outstanding bull with a great outlook about him," Mr Lisle said. "He's got thickness and he walks well. I liked the video presentation for that reason."
Volume buyers were Peter and James Heagney, The Willows at Guyra, who have bought bulls at Amos Vale from the stud's inception.
"We are foundation clients from when Noel and Marie used to sell sires in the paddock," he said
The family bought four bulls to an average of $10,500 and a top of $13,500 for Amos Vale Hawthorne Q029 by Wallan Creek Victory Blend M020. The 930kg sire, 22 months old, with 39cm scrotal circumference recorded 129sqcm EMA and 6.3pc intra muscular fat - equal second highest in the draft.
Repeat buyers Michael and Sue Moorhead, Baryulgil Pastoral, bid to $19,000 for Amos Vale Highlander Q006 by Leeway Maximise M008 from top herd cow Amos Vale Pansy 166. the bull weighed 1002kg at 21 months - quite an achievement considering his birth wight was just 38kg.
Highlander is the first son of the $22,000 Leeway Maximise who has bred some of the best females the Campion family has ever had.
"It was a very consistent sale right through and we are happy with the result," said stud principal Mark Campion. "It was great to see some new buyers along with our repeat clients."
Newcomen Herefords, Ensay, Vic paid $15,000 for Amos Vale Hi Calibre Q0043 by Hylands Baker L525, presenting with +93 for 600 day growth and -0.4 for gestation length.
Geoff and Margaret Larsen, Hylands Herefords at Cootamundra, paid $16,000 for Amos Vale Hayrunner Q005 by Leeway Maximise M008.
The 21 month old bull weighed 878kg with a 40cm scrotal circumference, 128 sqcm EMA and 5.6 IMF.
The Wormsley family, Glen Innes, paid $11,000 for Amos Vale Handyman Q012 by Hylands Baker.
Adam and Belinda Chapman, Fineflower on the Clarence, bought two bulls to a top of $11,000 for Amos Vale Herdsman Q015 by Talbalba Storm J206, 914kg at 22 months with 6.3pc IMF and will use him in their First Cross enterprise.
