THE Eastern Young Cattle Indicator may have lost it's upward momentum in the past week, but that's not being reflected in NSW prices or the confidence vendors are placing in saleyards.
Lightweight steers surged to a top of 746 cents a kilogram (liveweight) in Tamworth on Monday.
They tipped the scales at 199kg and were picked up by restockers keen to put them on grass and still make a profit down the track.
Agents claim it's a record for Tamworth saleyards.

Buoyed by market confidence Granite Hill Cattle, Burrago, sent in 400 Angus steers to go under the hammer and top at 554.2c/kg at Central Tablelands Livestock Exchange, Carcoar, on Tuesday.
Ray White Emms Mooney agent Harry Larnach said the steers ranged from 12 to 18 months and had been backgrounded by their client.
"It's supply and demand and with the market being so good our client has decided to sell now rather than in smaller lots over a number of weeks," Mr Larnach said.
