AN ONLINE presence and loyal repeat buyers fuelled the bidding at the 28th annual DSK Angus and Charolais Bull Sale today at Borah Station, Rocky Glen via Coonabarabran, where bulls with substance, performance and muscle went under the hammer.
Overall vendors Chris Knox and Helen Alexander cleared the entire offering with 58 bulls sold to a top of $18,000 and average of $11,190.
In the breakdown 44 Angus bulls sold to $15,000, twice and averaged $11,025, while 14 Charolais bulls sold to a $18,000 high and $11,930 average.
With COVID-19 lockdowns and border closures, the DSK sale was missing some of its usual familiar faces, however many were still operating online.
AuctionsPlus had a large presence with 23 lots, or 40 per cent of the draft, sold to nine online buyers. In total 189 people were logged into the sale, with 187 bids placed across 50 of the lots catalogued.
The final offering of Charolais bulls to be sold at auction by the DSK stud was well-received, with volume buyers taking the opportunity to pick up bulls with extra muscle and finish.

DSK K25 Quarterly Q51 was the $18,000 sale-topper that kicked off the Charolais draft. He was purchased by the Finger family of Lake Lofty Pty Ltd, Injune, Qld who selected three Charolais bulls for a $15,000 average.
The high-selling Quarterly Q51 was sired by DSK PGRM Kappa K25E and out of DSK TGL Beatrix L19E.
He tipped the scales at 906 kilograms at 21 months of age, and had an eye muscle area (EMA) of 135 square centimetres, a scrotal circumference of 38cm, rump and rib fat measurements of 13 millimetres and 9mm and an intramuscular fat (IMF) percentage of 5.4pc.
Also from Queensland was Moongool Charolais at Yuleba who bought the $16,000 second high-priced Charolais, DSK K25 Rough Start R8.
A homozygous polled half brother to the top-priced bull, also being by DSK PGRM Kappa K25E, Rough Start R8 earned his name after his mother, DSK Edge Beatrix F28E, died during the drought when he was only a few weeks old and he did not find a foster mother to take him.
A younger bull at 16 months of age, he weighed 788kg with a 129 sq cm EMA and measurements of 37cm for scrotal circumference, 10mm and 7mm for rump and rib fats and 5.4pc for IMF.
Two Angus bulls sold for the equal top price of $15,000 in the Angus draft including DSK TEL Quality Assured Q119 purchased by Paul and Janelle Neiberding, Uliman, Purlewaugh.
A son of the $56,000 sire in Texas Earnan L612 and out of DSK G2 Dandaloo J64, he weighed 820kg with an EMA of 123 sq cm, scrotal measurement of 40cm, rump and rib fats of 19mm and 1mm and a high IMF of 7.3pc.
Repeat buyers of around 10 years, the Neiberding family runs around 500 commercial purebred Angus breeders as part of their cattle and grain operation.
"We were looking for herd bulls to breed females and steers for the feedlots... steers are mostly sold to (Elders) Killara Feedlot at Quirindi," Mr Neiberding said.
"The top bull was a good all round bull I was impressed with. He covers a lot of bases and has the volume, good skin and hair type that I was looking, and stands up well."
They also purchased DSK SPP Quebec Q34, a son of S Powerpoint WS 5503, for $12,000, to average $13,500 across the pair.
"He (Quebec Q34) had the scale, weight for age and also stands up well."
The Magee family of St Omer Angus, Capella, Qld paid the equal top money of $15,000 for DSK TEL Quartro Q19, also by the Texas Earnan bull.
Out of the Remitall H Rachis 21R daughter, DSK RR Dream L145, he weighed 872kg as a two-year-old and presented with a 125 sq cm EMA, 41cm scrotal circumference, 13mm and 8mm on the rump and rib and an IMF of 6.8pc.
Volume buyers of Charolais bulls were Grassbrook Pty Ltd, Brubri, Manilla who bought six bulls to a top of $13,000 and average of $9000.
Richard Braham of Jeogla Pastoral Company, Jeogla Station, Armidale were the most prolific buyers in the Angus draft. Operating online they put together a line of 13 bulls, paying a top of $14,000, twice and average of $11,077.
The sale was conducted by Nutrien Gunnedah and Purtle Plevey Agencies, Manilla with Tim Woodham of Nutrien as the auctioneer.
